It wouldn't let me upload pictures......BOO!!!
Colter had yet another weekly check-up with his pediatrician yesterday and overall it was a great appointment. I've always kind of questioned why everyone who works with Colter is so impressed with how well Colter's doing. Other than the obvious reasons, I started to question if I was missing something. Well last week Millie had mentioned something about Colter's heart function being only 30%. I couldn't for the life of me ever remember anyone telling me at anytime what exactly his heart function is. So all week it ate at me, so yesterday I asked what exactly is Colter's heart function, and much to my surprise she said 20%. I guess initially it's a little depressing hearing that one of your child's vital organs is only functioning at 20%, but that didn't last long. Soon I was thinking, "oh my goodness, how miraculous is that!!" Tyler always has a way to help me see these things. Is that not impressive that Colter is doing this good on only 20%, and he still has so much reserve!! Can you imagine how he would do at 40, or 50%..I understand now why everyone can't believe how well he's doing, he is just soooo impressive. His ECHO looked the same, and stable, and we ended up weening his oxygen down to .01 from .03!! I'm so so proud of Colter :)
We also also talked about feeding and we've come up with a pretty good plan. I have to tell you, last week Colter weighed 12lbs 4oz, and this week he was 12lbs 13oz!!!!So we bumped Colter up to 25ml/hr on his continuous feeds, and last week I started with 15 ml bollis feeds and worked my way up to 1.5 oz!! 1.5 oz is is approximately 44.25mls, he gets that 3x's a day. His dietitian wants him to work his way up on the continuous mls at night, so we can start 3 hours off feeds during the day. The ultimate goal here would be to get him to 33mls/hr at night, then bollis feeds every 3 hours during the day of 77ccs(just over 3oz. per bollis feed) Then we also have to meet with OT and do another swallow study to see how he does so we can start up on some oral feeds as well. I would like to see him get his tubes out when we go for his next catherization, but that all depends on him...Here's to wishful thinking!!!
We also went to the wound center today cause his darn incision site is still having trouble on the bottom (where they had to use the wound vac). They took off all the dead skin and plucked out the tops of the stitches on 2 that have came through the skin, the other three we have to wait till the fluid drains around them. So we have another appointment next week.
Well I'm just so proud of Colter!! Keep it up!!
