Hello everyone!! Well I have some pretty big news to share with all of you..I'M WRITING A BOOK!! The first two entries I posted are going to be part of the book, I hope you all enjoyed it! You'll have to wait for me to finish the book to read the rest :) I also have one other thing in the hopper that I'm so SO passionate about, I can't quite spread the news yet because I'm in the beginning stages. Let's just say Colter has inspired me to make a difference. As soon as I can go public, I will!! In the mean time, thank you thank you Tyler for being so supportive. I love you more!
So for those of you who don't know Colter's story, please log onto www.caringbridge.org/visit/coltercross. I know you guys are dying for an update on Colter, well I'm happy to report he's doing beautifully! The first few weeks were a little hectic as I'm sure you all can imagine. But now we are all settling in quite nicely, Colter has weekly appointments, one week he'll see his Cardiologist and then next he sees his Pediatrician. So far Colter's been gaining weight and growing well, he's only in the 3% for height and weight. Cardiac babes are known for being smaller, but in the average of cardiac babies his age they are very happy with his growth trend.
When we left Seattle the Pulmonologist was pretty confident that we wouldn't see a normal gas exchange in Colter for at least 3 months, if at all. Well I'm so so SO happy to report that our little miracle had a normal gas exchange at his last blood gas draw! I mean how exciting is that!? It just goes to show, don't doubt Colter and don't put Colter on a timeline, he'll get things done in his OWN time!! He is just so amazing, I catch myself just staring at him always in awe with how strong he is, and what fight he already has shown us. I have a hard time believing he's only 3 months old, it seems like he should be at least 6 months or even a year with everything he's been through.
Two ECHO's ago, so roughly 3 weeks ago Dr. Hardy informed us that because Colter got so terribly sick right after open heart surgery, it's effected how Colter's heart squeezes. Right now Colter's heart isn't squeezing very good, if it doesn't start squeezing harder in the next year to year in a half it looks like he'll go on the list for a transplant. I know this sounds devastating, but we all have to remember it's Colter we're talking about! How many times has he surprised us, better yet SHOCKED us? Too many times to count! Colter can do it, I believe he just needs sometime. I mean knowing him he'll probably wait till the last minute, but I'm confident his little heart will start working the way it should. And you know what? If he does end up needing a transplant, let's cross that bridge when we get there. Cause in the mean time, we got him, and it's fabulous, and we're enjoying every minute!!
Well now that I got that out of the way, I wanna mention all of the normal baby things Colter's been doing! He's a mama's boy! There I said it! Sorry Tyler :P But it's the truth, he sure loves his mama. I do have to admit though he gets pretty gaga over his Daddy too. Colter has the best smile, it's not an understatement when I say his smile lights up the room. Right now he's so close to laughing, I mean it's right there. It's going to be any day now he's going to let out the cutest belly laugh. He's also found his hands, well first his hands found his oxygen tubing a LONG time ago, he's pretty good at pulling off the stickers on his face every 2 days!! Little stinker! Also in the last weeks he's been reaching and grasping things, last night he was laying under his play mat and was batting at the things hanging, it was SO CUTE!!
All in all Colter's doing great, and he looks awesome!! We are so happy to have him home and it's such a joy to watch him grow.. We have an appointment with his cardiologist tomorrow and he pulmonologist on Thursday. So I will post at the end of the week to update you all on his appointments..
Much love,
Bobbie
